About
A few commonly asked questions, or questions that I often ask myself.
Why the Canucks?
Why not the Canucks? I live in Vancouver, I grew up in Vancouver. They’ve been my favourite team for a long time. You can actually thank my sister for this, as without her, I doubt I would’ve been as involved with the team as I was early on. She’s pretty much taught me everything I know about hockey – and I even have three of her old posters somewhere in my room.
What does ‘stick in rink’ mean?
The ‘stick in rink’ is the name that was given to the Canucks’ first-ever NHL jersey. More recently, you’ll recognize it as Vancouver’s alternate jersey during the 05/06 and 06/07 hockey season. Stick in rink just describes what it is – a picture of a hockey stick inside a skating rink.
That’s really boring.
After seeing the flying v’s, I’m fine with that.
Is the stick in rink coming back?
All signs point to no. At least not in any official capacity, in spite of the Canucks making the logo available in pretty much all of the merchandise they sell. Which is a shame, frankly, because it’s the jersey that’s the most representative of Vancouver, and possibly the one that’s the most respectful to Vancouver’s hockey heritage.
Yeah, that’s right. I said that Vancouver has a hockey heritage.
Why do you sometimes update a lot, and sometimes not at all?
Writing a post requires 2 things:
1. Something to actually write about.
2. Time.
While I don’t have a problem with #1, #2 leaves something to be desired. I work two jobs and I go to school full time. You’ll notice that October, December, March, and April are quiet months – that’s because it’s term paper/finals season.
I try to update when something important happens, and I always update with The Sunday Edition, but time permitting are the keywords for all posts, and sometimes time just doesn’t.
I wrote you an e-mail – why haven’t you responded?
See above. Also, I am flaky when it comes to my e-mail. Try sending it again to catch my attention.
Can you get me in touch with [this Canuck]?
My sister and her husband once saw Kirk McLean at Rogers Video in Ironwood (Richmond). That’s all I’ve got (and all you’re going to get as well).
What’s with the Trevor Linden love?
What’s not with the Trevor Linden love?
Everybody has a hockey hero. He’s mine.
What’s with all of the CDC stuff?
CDC (or Canucks.com, usually in reference to the forums) is the ultimate time-waster. I spent more time browsing threads than listening to my American history lectures. I post a lot of CDC quotes simply because I appreciate funny things, and CDC is a funny place.
What’s ‘The Sunday Edition’?
It’s just a weekly post about the humourous side of hockey. Sometimes it’s old, sometimes it’s new – most times it’s just something I’ve stumbled across that week, hidden in the seedy depths of my harddrive.
Why did you stop ‘The NHL In 15 Minutes’?
It got boring. And especially with blogging, if I don’t want to read it, why would you want to read it?
You’re not good with analyzing hockey stuff.
Nope! Unless it’s historical or literary in nature, I leave that to the experts.
Can you link to my website?
If it’s hockey related, absolutely! Just contact me.
I have another question!
You can drop me a line at the contact me page.
(some more stuff that’s vaguely important in terms of keeping my ass out of court:)
Images are used without permission, and often uncredited because I have a gig worth of photos on my computer collected over the years from CDC. Articles that I’ve copied and pasted from other sources are always indicated as such and a link is provided to the source, if possible.
I am not in any way affiliated with the Canucks, Canuck Place, the Moose, the Salmon Kings, the NHL, the CHL, or Orca Bay. My other sister saw Trevor Linden once, but that’s the closest I’ve ever come to a Canuck. I cannot get you tickets or contact information, a front office job with the team, or a marriage proposal. Trust me on that last one: I would’ve been married 5 times over by now.
